AI Plot: generating a complete plot from an idea

AI Plot turns an idea into a structure: from a few indications you get a complete plot with characters, narrative cards across several tracks and an arc with inciting incident, complications, point of no return, climax and resolution. This guide explains what it produces, how to refine it and where to take it. It complements plot editor and narrative timeline.

What you need as input

The brief requires only a few elements, but they are the ones that determine the result:

• Genre (e.g. psychological thriller, fantasy).
• Mood/tone (dark, ironic, epic).
• Theme (identity, sacrifice, power).
• Setting (place, era, world).
• Protagonist and, if you want, number of tracks and cards.

The more specific the brief, the less generic the plot will be: it is worth giving a conflict and a constraint, not just a setting.

What it produces

The output is normalised into the Plot Studio format: characters with role (protagonist, antagonist, supporting, minor), want, fear and arc; cards with type (event, turning point, force, dramatic question, world state, revelation, climax…), intensity 1–10, position on tracks and slots and relations (setup/payoff, cause/effect); a complete synopsis at the top of the board. The same slot on different tracks indicates simultaneous events.

The AI proposes the structure; the dramaturgical choices — where the turning point falls, what stays open — remain yours.

Refining in Plot Studio

The generated plot is a starting point. In the Plot Studio you can drag cards between slots (if a slot is occupied they swap), change their type and intensity, add or remove tracks, link setup and payoff and rewrite the synopsis. The principle stays the same: the plot is the chain of consequences.

Taking it into the editor

With “Export to editor” the plot becomes a working document: you can create a new file or project with structure, characters and timeline, and from there write, analyse and refine. The plot title is distinct from the project title: exporting does not rename the original work.

Cost and limits

AI Plot has a fixed cost of 50 credits per generation. It is a credit-based feature, so it requires an account. It should be seen as an accelerator: it saves you the blank page, it does not replace judgement. Check the consistency of characters and arcs with the analysis of the written text.

Common mistakes

• Vague brief: “a fantasy story” produces a generic plot.
• Accepting without touching: the structure always needs refining.
• A single track: you need parallel tracks to let the story breathe.
• Confusing AI Plot and analysis: the former designs, the latter verifies the text.
• Forgetting the cost: every regeneration consumes credits.
